How to Say 'I Like You' Without Saying It Out Loud Yet
Let the feeling show through presence, half-sentences and small kindnesses until the words are ready.

There is a sweet, slightly agonising stretch between noticing someone and telling them. I like that stretch more than I admit. It is the part of the story where everything is subtext and you get to be a little mysterious without lying. You do not need to rush through it. You only need ways to let the feeling leak out, one warm drop at a time, so that when you finally say the words they will not be news.
Start with availability. Say yes to the second coffee. Stay ten minutes after the group has drifted off. Be the person who replies with more than 'haha'. Availability is the plainest love language and the one most often overlooked. When you keep turning up with your full attention, you tell someone that you have chosen to be here, with them, instead of anywhere else on a perfectly good evening.
Start with availability.
Then try the half-sentence. 'I was hoping you'd be here.' 'I saved this for you.' 'I like how you talk about things you love.' These are honest statements that stop politely short of the headline. They let the other person feel the warmth without being asked to answer a proposal. If they step toward you, add another half. If they smile and change the subject, you have lost nothing but a little pink in your cheeks.
Small gifts speak well, too: a book with a pencilled note in the margin, a playlist with no explanation, a pastry from the bakery they mentioned once. Make it easy to receive. No grand gesture, nothing that demands an equally grand reply. And watch what comes back. Reciprocity is quiet too. They remember your birthday, text first, lean in, find reasons to stand near you. You are simply reading the same language in return.
When the moment comes to say it plainly, you will already suspect the answer is warm. Pick a calm place, speak slowly, and keep it short: 'I like you. I wanted you to know.' Nothing more is required. If you want to see how a single spark can rearrange a whole story, One Kiss Started Everything is one of the short romance dramas on TheFriend. And if you want to rehearse the words first, I will listen, and I will not even tease. Much.
